About this series:
Blending the boundaries between the stereotypical traits we allocate to gender really drives me in portrait work because i want to get closer to the core of the subject, which typically won’t sit neatly in the limited box we allocate through gender norms. I also like to work with people who haven't ever posed before or don't "know how to model".
We try to remind ourselves that confidence comes from within but so often it is actually given to us by others. No matter how beautiful someone is, they won’t see it if they grew into the mold they were given. I usually like to illustrate this through contrast: the comfort in hiding (behind cloths or in this case, in darkness) opposed with a sign of confidence or beauty (a piercing stare, a clenched jaw, a sensual pose, etc).
